Frankland Islands Cruise & Dive

FRANKLAND ISLANDS are a group of islands located 45 kilometres south of Cairns and are an untouched North Queensland Treasure which makes for a unique Great Barrier Reef experience. Uninhabited and covered in lush vegetation, surrounded by rich and diverse reefs the Frankland Islands are teaming with permanent and migratory marine life, especially the Green Sea Turtle which nests on the island. Fantastic photo opportunities, so don’t forget your camera.

A 35 minute gentle cruise on the beautiful Mulgrave River followed by a swift 20 minute open water crossing to the Franklands onboard your sleek 24 metre catamaran. Normanby Island, part of the Frankland Islands group offers a comprehensive reef system with a tropical island. Snorkelling and reef viewing are easily accessed from the beach. Your day on the island can be as active or as leisurely as you feel. Guided snorkeling trails with your Activities Officer offer a simple and comprehensive introduction to the reef and provide an excellent opportunity to observe this diverse marine environment. View the coral gardens underneath by glass bottom boat. For those who wish to immerse themselves there is the option of first time or certified Scuba Diving.

Feast on a beachside BBQ banquet under the shade of the large green island canopies in the trees. Vegetarians are happily catered for. Unique two person igloos are available for shade in addition to the canopy and the trees on the island. Your assured that there will be no more than just 100 people on the island per day, you’ll be part of a very small select group to spend up to five hours in our natural paradise all this makes for one of the best “days out” in Cairns. Great Day for those with children or on their honeymooners.

CAMPING:- For those wanting to explore further there is the option for campers to transfer to neighboring Russell Island, the perfect place to emulate Robinson Crusoe. On Russell Island line fishing is permitted and the best snorkeling is to be found on the northern and western edges of the island. Numbers are restricted with only 15 campers permitted on the island at any one time for a maximum of five nights. No fresh water is available on the island and all provisions and equipment are to be provided by campers. Permits are issued on application by the Department of Environment and Heritage.
