Ochre Restaurant – Australian Modern Cuisine

On Tuesday 22nd August Jamie, Janine, Ivana and I went on a food tasting familisation to the Award winning restaurant Ochre, which specialises in Australian Modern Cuisine and focuses on local and native produce.

  • Starter – Wattle seed Damper loaf with macadamia oil and native Dukka which was deliciously dense and filling, a small serve is definitely enough to serve one  .
  • Entrees – Natural Oysters, smoked salmon, deep fried calamari skewers, salt and native pepper crocodile and prawns, scallops with pineapple chili jam, tempura golf bugs on lemongrass with green papaya salad.

The entree dishes were simply beautiful!! that being said, I do love seafood!! My favourite will definitely be the golf bugs on lemongrass which was perfectly cooked, crispy and tender, mouthwatering.

  • Mains – locally caught Barramundi fillet with asian greens and pineapple salsa, Queensland beef, grilled kangaroo with fried sweet potato cake.

To avoid the meat from being too tough, Kangaroo meat will need to be cook medium rare, in saying that I’m not too keen on eating red meat which is still pink therefore i didn’t try the kangaroo or the beef but Jamie did and in her opinion, the kangaroo was nicely cooked and the beef was delicious. In saying that, i did try the barramundi which was complimented by the asian greens and pineapple salsa and i loved it!

  • Dessert – vanilla and chocolate ice cream, strawberry sorbet, local seasonal fruits, Quandong Creme brulee with hazelnut tuille.

We all loved the Creme brulee with the hazelnut tuille, it was light and was not overly sweet.
The presentation of each dish that came out was creative, neat and simple, the atmosphere and vibe of the overall experience was definitely relaxed yet very professionally well structured.
