Rainforestation Army Duck Tour
Explore the rainforest by land and water aboard a WWII Army Duck, with a guided journey through lush tropical forest at Rainforestation Nature Park.
Experience the tropical rainforest from a totally unique perspective aboard an amphibious World War II DUKW, colloquially known as Duck.
Rainforestation has twelve of these historical vehicles which hold up to 30 passengers and uses a 6 wheel drive, propeller and rudder. During this 45 minute rainforest tour, your knowledgeable Duck Captain will identify and explain fascinating plants and wildlife as you pass by before splashing into the lake for a cruise with more wildlife to be seen.
After your tour, visit the tropical fruit orchard which features over 60 different species of exotic tropical fruit trees and you'll learn about fruits of the region and the world.
The DUKW (colloquially known as Duck) is a six-wheel-drive amphibious modification of the 2-ton capacity CCKW trucks used by the U.S. military in World War II. DUKWs are still in use today, as well as purpose-built amphibious tour buses, primarily as tourist transport in many attractions world-wide. In Australia the largest fleet of DUKWs is right here at Rainforestation. The first DUKW was acquired by Rainforestation owners Charles and Pip Woodward in 1975 and there are currently twelve DUKWs operating on a daily basis. To ensure the DUKWs are well maintained at Rainforestation we have two full time engineers who carry out running repairs. The DUKWs share 85% of their parts with the GMC CCKW truck however parts unique to the DUKW are getting extremely rare. Our mechanics are very clever at manufacturing some of these parts.
