Wangetti Trail
3 hours
Discover a scenic rainforest and coastal hike with tropical views and rainforest magic.
The Wangetti Trail is an ambitious walking and mountain-biking route along Tropical North Queensland's lush coastal rainforest and rugged Wet Tropics heritage coastline. Stretching from Palm Cove to Port Douglas, the trail will eventually cover about 94 kilometres passing through ancient rainforest, coastal lookout points, and culturally significant land of the Djabugay Nation.
As of now, the first section from Palm Cove to Ellis Beach is open. This beautiful 7.8-kilometre stretch weaves through shaded rainforest, crosses a network of 17 bridges over creeks and mangroves, and offers tropical coastal views inclusive of rainforest canopy sounds, native birdlife and glimpses of turquoise ocean beyond the trees.
When completed by 2028, the full trail will allow adventurers to explore the coast from Palm Cove to Port Douglas over multiple days, with options for public camping or eco-accommodation.
- Access to open sections of the trail (Palm Cove ↔ Ellis Beach) for walking or mountain biking
- Shared-use walking and biking track through protected rainforest and coastal zones
- Signage and trailhead markers along open sections
